The First Transcontinental Railroad in the United States was built in the 1860s, linking the developing railway network of the Eastern coast with California. Ceremonially completed on May 10, 1869, it gave America a nation-wide transportation network, forever changing the American West. Its impact was increasing the number of jobs, consumer- lower prices on goods, business- expanded, and on the time zone- universal clock. The Transcontinental railroad expands from Omaha, Nebraska to Sacramento, California.

The railroad was finished at Promontory Point, Utah. The last spike that was drilled in is called the golden spike.
